Saving money on AC/ Heating

My friend told me that she tries to save on heating and cooling not just by adjusting the temp in her home but also, making sure all rooms that are not regularly used, are closed off. For us, that means our spare bedroom. So three days ago I closed the vents in the spare bedroom and closed the door. I took it a step further and had a talk with the kids and hubby about making sure all closet doors are closed when not being used. So far so good. We have a large walkin closet and my kids have fairly large closets also, so I hope that helps to keep them closed. Less space to heat and cool equals more money saved for us!!

Another tip for your ac/heat registers: you can either purchase register magnets or make your own (purchase the 81.2 x 11" pc printable magnet sheets from WalMart, Office Max, etc.) & put these magnets on your registers to close off even More hot/cold. I've done this for years & works great! Nice to read your blog & wish you well.

Daisy,
I close off my closets and registers as well. Such a great savings. Also, last year we kept the thermostat even lower by purchasing small ceramic heaters (less than $30 a piece) and had those on in the spaces we were occupying. It worked great and saved us more money. Thanks for your blog!
